These make sense; disease and parasites are common in rain forests and the poor soil in the rain forest can be easily emaciated. Even today people are still having problems with the soil. I have a magnitude of evidence for this theory. Firstly, skulls have been found in Copán that show evidence of malnutrition. Second, droughts occur periodically so an unexpected one would of helped further to destroy the crops and the Mayan civilization. Finally for the idea that an epidemic just finished them of. Because of malnutrition the general population would of been weak and a traveler from northern Mexico or elsewhere could of easily brought in a disease that would of killed thousands of Maya in there already weakened state; they also would of had no cure to it.
